Through the eyes of an intern…

It has been almost one month working as an intern for Challenge Aspen and, so far, I love it! Over the past month I have been in training almost every day. Every single day I spend at Challenge Aspen I learn something new. Before starting this job, I was a little nervous about my skiing ability because I have only been snowboarding for the last few years. After a couple days on the hill, however, my ski legs came right back. I can now even ski backwards, which I had never done before. All the skills I am learning as an intern are incredibly valuable to me. That does not mean the training has been easy. I have dropped another intern in a sit ski, looked like a fool trying to ski backwards, and crashed on the flattest part of the hill. These were merely minor bumps on my road of learning. As the training continued, I became much more proficient at bucketing a sit ski after I learned what not to do. Once I let go of my fear of going backwards, I did not look like a fool any longer. And even the best of skiers fall at one time or another, so it does not embarrass me anymore. These are just a few of the many things I have learned so far, and there is much more to come. This internship is one of the most valuable experiences I will have in my life, and I am so grateful to be here.
