CAMO Rocky Mountain Retreats

Explore new outdoor recreation activities or enhance your skills at current ones with a CAMO Rocky Mountain Retreat! These multi-day, cost-free programs are open to any veteran with a VA disability rating. Please review our eligibility guidelines before applying. Submitted applications are reviewed by the CAMO staff, and applicants considered will be contacted for an interview to see if a Rocky Mountain Retreat is a good fit for them.

Rocky Mountain Retreat PROGRAM DETAILS +

Challenge Aspen provides the following for all CAMO Rocky Mountain Retreats:

  • Shared lodging
  • Ground transportation from Aspen Airport and for all activities
  • Breakfast (hotel), light lunch or snacks, and dinner
  • Professional activity instruction Required activity equipment (unless specified in retreat description)
  • Lift tickets or access fee

All CAMO Rocky Mountain Retreats require a refundable $100 deposit to secure a spot. Upon completion of your retreat and survey, your deposit will be returned. Please see our cancellation policy.

2026 & 2027 Retreats

Advanced Archery

Get ready to dial in your gear and sharpen your aim! This high-energy retreat kicks off with two days of shooting and fine-tuning at our private range in Basalt, then heads to Durango for two big days of fun competition at the legendary Total Archery Challenge at Purgatory Resort.
This retreat is designed for experienced archers who are confident and proficient in their abilities. Due to the challenging terrain and nature of the Total Archery Challenge event, it is not suitable for individuals who use wheelchairs or have significant mobility limitations.
A limited number of Hoyt Torrex loaner bows are available, however participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own archery equipment.

Introductions to Fly Fishing

Discover the serenity and skill of fly fishing in the heart of the Rockies. Taking place across the Gold Medal waters of the Roaring Fork Valley, this program offers a supportive and adaptive environment where participants can learn the fundamentals of fly fishing from experienced guides and instructors.
This retreat is designed for the aspiring fly fisher, who has limited or no experience.  This event is very adaptable, and suitable for most individuals regardless disability.
All necessary equipment is provided.

September 28th – October 2nd, 2026

Introductions to Snowsports

Experience the magic of the mountain by learning the fundamentals of skiing or snowboarding in Snowmass!  Whether it’s your first time, or it’s been a long time – you’ll get 3 days of instruction to get you up to speed and having fun.

This retreat is designed for new skiers looking to build basic fundamentals, and is not suitable for people who can comfortably ski or snowboard at an intermediate or higher level.  It is our most adaptable retreat, and open to anyone of any ability.

December 13th – 18th, 2026

PSIA Ski Instructor Boot Camp

In a partnership with the PSIA, CAMO is offering 6 veterans an opportunity to level up their ski instruction skills by offering an Alpine Adaptive training program and Level 1 certification exam.  Eligible participants must be a current PSIA member with an Alpine Level 1 certification.  This event will be a 2-day on snow training with top tier adaptive trainers, followed by a 1-day Adaptive Level 1 VI/Cognitive Exam..
This retreat is designed for individuals already involved in the snow sports industry, including instructors, volunteers, mountain guides, and more.  Intermediate or above ski ability, and moderate athletic endurance is required.  Attendees are required to be paid members of the PSIA.

This retreat is available by professional recommendation only.  Please have the supervisor of the program you work with contact Ryan at camo@challengeaspen.org.
