Title: Development Director

Reporting to: CEO

Direct reports: Development Coordinator, Marketing Assistant

Job purpose: The Development Director’s principle role is to create numerous efficient and compelling opportunities for donors to support Challenge Aspen and to make the experience of giving satisfying and rewarding. Responsible for driving fundraising results.

Qualifications: Minimum of six years experience in for-profit or non-profit sectors of Business Development with a proven record of fundraising success and donor retention. Experience in raising 1.5 million dollars annually, ability to generate leads and close deals, understand complex gift giving and possess strong relationship building skills. Proven experience working with an active fundraising board, and overseeing Committees and Chairs for fundraising events. Advanced computer skills required. Understanding of graphic design, public relations, and Neon CRM database experience beneficial.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Create and execute successful donor relationship development, sales, and retention plans
  • Develop annual revenue budget in coordination with CEO and CFO
  • Nurture relationships with, and increase support from, local and national business partners while researching, identifying, and cultivating new partners and sponsors
  • Develop existing and new relationships within Challenge Aspen’s current community of donors/supporters
  • Develop and manage organizational marketing plan; ensure marketing needs of other departments are met
  • Oversee use of organizational brand
  • Bring an established professional network from the Roaring Fork Valley
  • Develop agreed upon income goals and objectives for major events (Gala and Golf Classic, etc.), the Annual Appeal, as well as any new opportunities
  • Develop short-term and long-term business development strategic plans, in conjunction with CEO
  • Determine and oversee special events
  • Develop calendars, action plans, and timelines for the Annual Appeal campaign, special events, Gala and Golf Classic, sponsorships, grants etc.
  • Utilize the CRM to accurately record, manage, and report on contacts, prospects, donors, and events
  • Strategize and manage grant applications
  • Develop and manage advisory boards
  • Oversee and manage relationships with graphic designer, IT consultant, sponsors, vendors, and other contractors
  • Act as member of Snowmass Tourism Marketing Advisory Committee

Key success factors:

  • Work from a realistic strategic plan and timeline for each event and project
  • Precise and thorough direction of, and communication with, CA’s Marketing Assistant and Development Coordinator
  • Appropriate assessment of measurable results from each project/event; manage recap and future planning
  • Research, network, and introduce potential new donors with significant resources to CA
  • Maintain clear, positive, effective communication at all times
  • Willingness to work additional hours required around event planning and execution
  • Act as an ambassador for Challenge Aspen with customer service as #1 priority
