Perks of Being an Intern

There are many perks of being an intern at Challenge Aspen. The two that I am recently grateful for are: Operation X C.A.M.O. (Challenge Aspen Military Opportunities) Camp that provided us with an amazing time at the X Games and the 20+ inches of fresh pow pow!

The Operation X C.A.M.O. Camp was a men’s military camp that came for three days to enjoy some skiing/snowboarding and the X Games. After each day of skiing with the guys we would all pile into Sunshine (our beloved van) and make our way down the road to Buttermilk. With Podium Member passes we were allowed access to free food, warmth, and amazing seats to watch the events. The guys had so much fun and it was a grand time watching the events with them. Being able to stand up on the superpipe was one of the cooler experiences of my life. I have wanted to attend the X Games since I was young and I couldn’t have asked to experience it with anyone else. Also, I was able to meet superpipe gold medalist, Kelly Clark, and silver medalist, Chloe Kim (who is 13 years old – what!?!?). Overall, unforgettable weekend!

Now that the games are over and the tourists are gone, Mother Nature knew to keep the good vibes flowing so she decided to dump all the snow she has been holding off on us over the last two weeks. It dumped hard last night, today, and will continue tomorrow. Since I now know how to ski (thanks to Challenge Aspen) I was overjoyed to have the day off and be able to both ride and ski the fluffy crystals of fun all day. Oh how I do love the mountains and the snow! There is nowhere else in the world I would rather be right now than the glorious winter wonderland that is Aspen/Snowmass.

Note: This is the greatest internship anyone could ever get, ever! Brett, that better move me to number 1!

Additional Note: I am writing this blog in the most fantabulous fort that has ever existed, ever! My wonderful roommate and I put our living room to good use…plus it has swirl lights on the ceiling (be jealous).

Additional Note 2: The fort also comes supplied with Nintendo 64 Mario Kart which I will now be playing. Yup, you are definitely jealous now.

Carly Davis is from the great state of Minnesota and graduated this past May from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington where she studied Exercise Science and Sport Psychology. She is one of seven incredible interns for the winter ’13-’14 season. Stay tuned for more!
